Re: Does AE need QuickTime?

Hi, Todd.

I tried all the solutions that seemed to apply to Windows, with no success. I can't find a Library/QuickTime location so I'm assuming this refers to Mac.

An odd (or maybe its not odd) behavior I notice when I open QuickTime 7.6.6 is that the colors of the desktop change to Windows Basic, then revert back when I close the program. Not sure if this indicates a problem.

Regarding a couple of your potential fixes:

Solution 2: Remove third-party QuickTime importers and exporters.

The initialization process can fail if QuickTime gets stuck while attempting to load a bad third-party importer component.

Remove all third-party QuickTime importers and exporters from the Library/QuickTime directory and restart the application. - Is this for Macs? Not sure where I'd find third-party importers/exporters on my machine.

The issue might also be with permissions for a folder outside the After Effects permissions folder. This seems to especially be the case on Mac OS. To ensure that all Adobe applications can write to their preferences files, set the entire Adobe preferences folder and its contents to be read/write, not just read-only:

(Windows) [drive]\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming/Adobe\ - When I look at the properties of this folder, it's set to read only. When I check under Security/Permissions, read and write are enabled. Is this correct? If not, how do I change the folder to read/write?

I'd appreciate any other suggestions you might provide to enable AE to recognize QT. By the way, I moved the Adobe QT32 Server.exe file out of the "32" folder and into another so that AE would stop hanging up on the Initializing Media Core step when I open the program.

My computer:

Windows 7 SP1

i7-4930K 3.4 GHz

32 GB RAM

Nvidia GTX 770

Thanks in advance for your help.
