All Macs are capable of creating pdfs out of the box. Use the print dialog box, use the pdf button. If you want to use Adobe technology for this process you need to press the pdf button and choose Save to Adobe PDF. If you want to convert from pdf to Word or something similar you use File->Save As Other. Acrobat is not that intuitive. I suggest using the Help Menu to access the help files to see how Acrobat works and/or purchase a book on using Acrobat.
